4. Notes

  • Started 20 minutes after the scheduled time, this was good; as we were down two slots for this run which took a while to find PUGs that would stick around after the weekly [Ignis the Furnace Master Must Die!].
  • Please congratulate Michael Knight for his first raid with A new beginning.
  • Moonburn (Pete de Zwart)'s first attempt at leading a raid, feedback is welcome.
  • We had a surprisingly smooth run, knocking down Ignis the Furnace Master, XT-002 Deconstructor, Kologarn & Auriaya in quick succession without a wipe in ≈1.5 hours.
  • Deadheart had to leave after Auriaya & we voted on attempting Hodir with 9 playes; which passed with an absolute majority.
  • The caves to Hodir proved to be challenging, as there were many surprise mobs and patrols that could aggro simultaneously. We steamrolled through them, good tanking & heals there saved our bacon.
  • Hodir was challenging, with over 8 million HP. New fight dynamics; as you need to keep the NPCs alive to maximise DPS & allow for efficient healing.
  • Going further along The Observation Ring instead of taking the first right after our first wipe against Hodir was funny.

    • It was great to have Miknight with us this raid! Smile
    • I thought Moonburn did a stand-up job filling in as our raid leader. I particularly liked how smooth our "rule by consensus" approach went; sometimes a raid needs some autocracy or it gets chaotic, but it was actually really painless.
    • Prediction: Hodir gets steamrolled next week.

We steamrolled through them, good tanking & heals there saved our bacon.

Everyone did their roles well. Some notable awesomeness:

    • It was great to have Jedi with us for his first New Beginning raid.
    • Moonburn did a great job as raid leader.
    • Swoon was really good with the tactics and remembering all the details we'd forgotten.
    • No deaths at all on the Ignis, Kologarn or Auriaya fights.

    Some thoughts for next time:

    • Probably should be stricter about clearing snow mounds; the knockback ended up popping mounds that looked easily avoidable.
    • Big ice mob dude needed to be pulled further out of the room to avoid the patrolling ice thingies.

    • 'Going further along The Observation Ring instead of taking the first right after our first wipe against Hodir was funny.' — my bad. sorry.
    • Really smooth run. I didn't expect to one-shot every boss up til Hodir, but we smashed it.
    • Awesome having Jedi come along to a raid. Thanks for offering to dps so we could pug the available healer. He did a great job considering that he'd never seen any of the fights before. I'm sure he'll be doing even better next time, now that he's trained up all his skills Wink
    • Excellent raid leading by MB. Everyone knew what they were doing and had fun doing it.
    • Hodir seems like a step up from the bosses so far (perhaps because we were 9-manning it). Fantastic effort to get to enrage timer on the second try. My observations for Hodir:
      • Keep the priests and pallies alive as they can mass dispel/cleanse the frost trap thing that roots us to the ground (which then leads to people getting frost tombed)
      • Try to remember to free people in frost tombs (I totally forgot to do this). Perhaps people can call out if they are frost tombed on vent.
      • Remember to free the NPCs too (after the players). They give lots of helpful buffs like the campfires.
      • Watch out for secondary ice falling in the snow drift after the first ice drop. I got knocked out of the snow drift and frost tombed by this on the second try.

The best Vent comment of the run was during the Ignis fight, when people were calling out who ended up in the pot:

    "Deadheart in the crotch"
    "Swoon in the crotch"
    "Buggerme in the crotch!"

I had a great time (even though my DPS was barely a touch above 'poked with a stick'). Everyone did so well that I didn't feel like a burden.

MB's leading was great and the tanking and heals were top-notch. It's great being part of such a skilled guild.
