Don't forget to RSVP!!!

Details

When: 25th January, 8:30pm
Where: Obsidian Sanctum and Ulduar
Who: Current Monday night roster is (by main): Furgin, Kittyfoot, Thatrayna, Carlfish, Boorunn, Conniecrashn, Deadheart, Jirra, Moonburn, Trunkun, Lolzcat and Glyws. (12)
Exchange Bench: Moonburn will be subbed out first, followed by Furgin (role allocation permitting)

Weekly raid quest is Sartharion so we have two choices:

  1. Attempt Sarth with drakes still up. Reduce number of drakes after a few wipes so we ensure we get him by the end of the night
  2. Stomp Sarth as quickly as possible so we can move on in Ulduar

Can You Make It?

Please leave a comment below if you can come. People who RSVP will be given preference for the weekly raid quest over people who haven't. It's annoying we have to be bureaucratic like this, but it's unfair on people on the interchange bench not to know whether they can safely PUG the weekly quest some other night.

Comments

  • Raid group forms at 8:30pm. Please be online, repaired and reagented.
  • The next encounters in Ulduar are The Assembly of Iron and Kologarn. If we're doing Ulduar it'll help to read up on them first.
  • Install DeadlyBossMods. It's a great little WoW addon that will help inform you when something bad is about to happen to you.
  • If you feel you need flasks, try to bring them yourself. Most of us outgear the content by a long way and it's pretty silly to rely on Luke to bring a raid-worth of expensive flasks every week that we mostly don't need.

    This is me RSVPing.

  2. Jan 18, 2010

Okay, here's a tricky one. What's our policy on subbing out people who are late, i.e. how long do we wait before replacing people who have RSVP'd for the run? If I turn up at 8:40pm and the raid is full, will I still be included?

I honestly don't mind if we have a strict "turn up at 8:30pm on the dot or you are subbed out" policy, but if I know this is the case then I'll probably try to pug the weeklies with conf and lolz during the week (mmm... yummy frost emblems) as I can't always guarantee that I'll be there on time (my daughter goes to bed around that time).

    1. Jan 18, 2010

Any chance you can log in at/before 8:30, fly to the meeting stone then afk? The main issue is knowing who's going to actually show on the night.

      1. Jan 18, 2010

No problems, I can do that (smile) Thanks!

  3. Jan 18, 2010

Will be there. Would be interested in trying Sarth 3D via zerg if people fancy it?

If you've not done it, you basically just clear trash, get everyone to respec DPS bar 1 tank 1 healer, pull Sarth to the back of the island. Pop heroism and newknewknewknewknewk, dodge 1 flamewall, newknewknewknewk, tank will inevitably die when the first drake appears (he'll get hit for 50k odd in a global) then everyone else tries to finish off boss before they die.

It's not very difficult execution wise, you just basically need a shaman and 8 people @ about 3.5k dps ish. Actually probably a bit less than that. Its hilarious to attempt anyway.

If you pull it off you get title, smexier lewt and a mount. Also undying love and respect from your fellow man.

Regardless, will be there with bells on once more!

    1. Jan 18, 2010

I foresee a few problems w.r.t. raid composition, but it'd be fun to try.

      1. Jan 18, 2010

If you'd like me to bring conf instead of lolz, just let me know. Don't mind either way.

        1. Jan 18, 2010

The most likely composition would be: Furgin (Tank), Glwys (Heals), Carlfish, Confluence, Deadheart, Boorunn, Anasta, Jirra, Zunoz, Conniecrashn.

My main concern is whether a paladin is the right choice to solo-heal "keep ten people alive for as long as possible". I'd feel happier with lolz healing, but then that doesn't leave any role for Glwys unless he has an alt/off-spec that can compensate for Confluence's DPS.

          1. Jan 18, 2010

Would cast time be an issue against Sartharion?

            1. Jan 18, 2010

It's not so much cast time as flexibility. Paladins have no HoTs and no group/smart heals, so the more people you task them with keeping alive, the more chance they have of falling behind when too many of them get hit at once.

If Glwys thinks it won't be a problem, happy to give it a try.

              1. Jan 18, 2010

Its really not a problem, as theres pretty much no damage to heal. The tank will be getting the whacking at about 1khps ish rate. Noone else will get hit at all basically, up until the point where the tank gets vapourised in a global. The only source of real raid damage is going to be the flamewall, but being all like pro and stuff the whole raid will dodge it.

I've done this before with my priest, and I did it in PVP Disc spec. Just renew on tank + bubble kept him up, other than that I just smited like a madman and PI'd the highest damage caster once the heroism went down.

Basically you need to just melt the absolute face off the boss before unhealable damage instagibs the tank: theres no raid healing problem, ill be DPSing about 80% of the time if Im the only healer.

                1. Jan 18, 2010

                  Awesome. Let's do it.

                  1. Jan 18, 2010

Its genuinely an absolutely hilarious thing to attempt as well, really enjoyable.

There's a bit of a variation on the theme where you can use someone to kite the first drake away from the raid to stop it battering the tank.

This might be the prefered strategy as you can do it with lower raid DPS. We can have a crack at both regardless. Bring haste potions (tongue)

  4. Jan 18, 2010

Will be there. I'd like to try Sarth with some drakes up but don't mind if we do Ulduar instead.

  5. Jan 24, 2010

I'm available for Ulduar; as I've already done Sarth considering that I'm on the bench for this week.

    1. Jan 24, 2010

lolz is saved to Sarth too. conf is available.

      1. Jan 24, 2010

Carlfysh is saved to Sarth, Carlfish is available.

(Carlfysh is also saved to Ony10 and ToC10. Busy weekend.)

  6. Jan 20, 2010

Some numbers for Sarth 3d zerg:

Sarth HP: 3,137,625 (2,510,100 + 25% from Will of Sartharion)
Assuming tank does 2k dps (on the high side...)

    DPS average

    Raid DPS

    Time to kill Sarth

    3500

    30,000

    104s

    4000

    34,000

    92s

Drake adds arrive at 30s, 75s and 120s. So even at the high end of our likely DPS we're looking at 20-30 seconds of two enraged drakes taking out party members (and pulling our DPS numbers down as they go). Most of the videos I've found of successful zergs have them finishing off Sarth in 75-80s and kiting the first drake away from the raid.

    This might be tough.

    1. Jan 21, 2010

The 2nd drake makes him immune when he gets there, so bossman has to be dead before that. Remember that the dps are standing pretty still throughout (bar the flamewall), with big heroism uptime and a haste potion each. 5kish dps shouldnt be a problem.

      1. Jan 21, 2010

One suggestion on IRC was that since we don't have a Druid to do the taunt-and-run, one of the DPS with a taunt (i.e. me or Deadheart) buys swiftness potions and sees how far we can get the first drake away from the raid when he enrages.

        1. Jan 21, 2010

A hunter would be a pretty safe bet in the absence of a Druid. Less chance of getting hit by the big bad and it would mean not having to take melée off the boss.

  7. Jan 22, 2010

I'll be online, but probably not geared enough to run with you. Happy to run heroics or something with those who are waiting to sub in to the raid.

  8. Jan 25, 2010

    i can make it tonight

  9. Jan 25, 2010

Sorry all, unfortunately I won't be able to make it. Really sorry for the short notice and best of luck.
