Run Summary

Big Props to Boorunn to turned up on the night twice now! Maybe he should sign up for this team!

Our goal tonight was to down the first two bosses of Trial of the Crusader and totally blew this out of the water. We made our way pretty smoothly to Anub'arak.

First two attempts failed, the heals were struggling, and we had an AFK (Thalaine) so we booted him and picked up another healer.

This was much easier and we owned the Northrend beasts after this change. Big Props to Atlassia for solo tanking from about 90% after Furgin and Carlfish died.

Lord Jaraxxus - Two Attempts

A good first attempt was overrun by infernals and understanding the mechanics. Very little ranged DPS so we changed strategies to move ALL dps on to the Mistress of Pain adds and downed this boss easily.

Faction Champs - One Shot

I was worried about this encounter as we didn't expect to get this far I hadn't prepared well. As it turned out, we cleared this pretty easily, only Deadheart died.

Twins - Two Shots

We went oh-so-close on the first attempt, Thatrayna screaming on vent about forgetting to switch specs out of PVP from the Faction Champs. Got them down easily in the second attempt.

Anub'arak

First attempt on this boss was good. Second attempt good too but wiped. We were well over time so and we were rushing, in all it was a good attempt at a boss we hadn't done before.

I'll Get you Next time Anub! Next Time!

Notes

  • Boorunn subbed in
  • Got first encounter down on third attempt
  • Deadheart was interrupting
  • Thatrayna was in PVP spec

Congrats prog team, exciting stuff! Any fraps of the fights?

  2. Jan 14, 2010

A night of fail on my part, despite the group's progress. Notes to myself for future attempts:

    • Keep an eye on when first snake goes down: enrage hits MT hard.
    • Nobody really knew how to handle the circles-of-fire debuff on Jaraxxus. The strategy guides say to back away and leave fire behind you but that (a) took me out of range of my heal targets, and (b) backed me right into where Atlassia was tanking the Infernals. Strafing means dodging the rest of the raid (see also: Moonburn dropping fire directly where I was standing)
    • Strategy of beaconing self on Faction Champs works a treat. Because enemy threat is apparently based on armour and health deficit, the fact I was in plate and constantly topped up allowed me to (a few interrupts aside) concentrate on heals/dispels on the rest of the raid
    • Read a few encounters ahead. I kept dying on the Twins because I didn't know about the Vortex and thought only DPS had to worry about switching auras.
    • Lots of movement in Anub' makes it too easy to lose range on one or both tanks, especially while trying to stay on the ice at the same time. I think a better awareness of who the spikes are chasing would make things easier?

I think a better awareness of who the spikes are chasing would make things easier?

According to the tankspot video, the spikes only do moderate damage while he's chasing, then hit hard when the ultimate target is reached. So it's only really important that people who aren't being chased:

      1. Stay near (but not necessarily on) some permafrost
      2. Try to get out of the way of the person being chased
      3. Get on the permafrost if they're the chase target so it can absorb the big hit

Moonburn dropping fire directly where I was standing

      Sorry mate, typical huntard.

Sorry I overreacted at the time. You didn't know what the debuff did, and I was oversensitive after dying too many times on Beasts. (smile)

I thought you acted appropriately. No worries. As a DPS I consider keeping the raid unaffected by debuffs on my characters to be a part of my role; otherwise is just poor form.

    Notes from my perspective:

    • After some re-gearing and re-enchanting over the past week, I failed to notice that I'd fallen below the spell hit cap. A fair proportion of my taunts missed, with disastrous consequences. Fail. Thankfully a few people lent me enchanting mats and Luke did a quick re-enchant of my boots as a temporary measure.
    • I found the infernals quite difficult to pick up - three of them spawn, a fair distance from the volcano, and the graphics that indicate where they're going to land are the same colour as the flames that are everywhere. They also don't spawn at once so on occasion I thought the third hadn't yet spawned when it had.
    • The Mistress of Pain posed no problems once we had enough DPS on them to ensure they died before the infernals spawned.
    • I need to re-read the Anub'Arak page, I wasn't entirely sure of the spike mechanics in the submerged phases.
    • I don't think I did my share of tanking in the Faction Champions fight - I spent the whole fight CCing the Death Knight (which mainly involved taunting him every time it was off cooldown and watching him attack Boorunn whenever it wore off).

But all in all I'm really happy with last night's run, I think we did great.
