The Lich King

Monday Raid - 20100927

Ok, this is it. The pinnacle of WoW, well the first one anyway.

We have one night before Ben and Penny go off on their safari, so we will be going in with only minor changes tonight and next week if he's not dead we can shuffle it up a bit more.

If we can do it, we should try and hit Arthas again on Thursday.

Lich King Strats

Okay, so the lich king fight makes Marrowgar look like Sindragosa. I got confused reading halfway through most strats. I haven't had time to distil the strats down into specific tips, like Carl's neat boss strat pages, but thought I'd link the stuff I've looked at:

Boss Killers: http://www.bktemp.com/cgi-bin/bbguild/index.cgi?action=view_guide&guide_id=746
Best strat I've read so far.

Tankspot: http://www.tankspot.com/showthread.php?62999-Icecrown-Lich-King
A little confusing.

Good for general information.

I like this blog. This post has some useful info.

Rotations/Reserves

Reminiscing

With Cataclysm looming somewhere nearish on the horizon, and our beloved Azeroth (Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor at least) under the threat/promise of suffering some massive upheaval, I was wondering what zones you love to play. Where did you have the most fun way back in the day? What area gives you the terrain/mobs/quests that you enjoy enough to hike a lowbie alt over the river and through the woods (or just all the way from Exodar) to run again?

*Inspired by a rainy afternoon reading through WoW forums and wondering how guildies would answer.

This will be a reset.

Humulupu has said she is unlikely to be available tonight as she is helping a friend move house.

While most are somewhere between dinner and dreaming when Thursday's ICC run happens, I'm fumbling around before the sun is up, my eyes half open trying to make coffee.  I was a bit late this week having forgotten to set an alarm and managed to get from REM to raiding in about 10 minutes.  I explain that to tell you this... even without my coffee, breakfasts are better with BACON.  Guildies, you rock.  Really and truly I am starting to think that with all of your patience, encouragement, and ability to explain without making one feel foolish, you have missed your callings as teachers.

We did well!  At least to me it seemed, and definitely in relation to last week's fun attempt.  Big things were killed!  Loot was acquired!  Hats off to the healers, you make me feel like I rock because I barely ever see my health tick away.

I'm having fun learning and playing and can't wait to make you all some cupcakes (or other such deliciousness) whenever I get back.  I'm looking forward to cheering you on, on Monday :)

GO GO GUILDZILLA!

Continue of Last week's Sindragosa attempts.

Phase 3

First Attempts

We will try this for a few goes, then move on to the more complicated strategy below.

We will use three heals
We are still aiming to hit the enrage timer, if we ever fail on this boss because of lack of dps instead of not working within the mechanics then we can consider 2 healers.

We will have one nominated DPS group leader
This leader will be calling out on vent when stacks need to be dropped for the entire DPS group. When an Ice Tomb comes up all DPS will run to the LOS position behind the tomb and will DPS according the DPS leader's pace. They will call out if you need to hold off DPS or smash it down fast. Once the Ice Tomb is down the DPS leader will lead you all back to the neutral position to resume DPS on the boss. We will repeat this process for each ice tomb. In our first attempts we will have one DPS leader (Probably Deadheart) in a group of five DPS.

We will use this layout

  1. As soon as phase 3 starts, everyone collapses on our fearless DPS leader on point b. Then starts DPS on the boss.
  2. When an ice tomb comes up:
    • Marked player moves to point 1 if its free, or 2 if it is not. That means if we are getting the tombs down faster than they are coming up then we will only use mark 1.
    • All dps runs to the LOS position behind the tomb and starts to DPS it. That means, stop what you are doing and run to the point behind the tomb (a or c) then DPS the tomb down. The DPS leader may call you to stop DPS depending on how quick it goes down, stop at 50% if you have heard nothing.
    • Healers decide if they are to move behind the tomb or not. If you are not behind the tomb you are in point b. You can't stay near the ice tomb spots or we will get AE tombed which will wipe us.
    • As soon as the the tomb is down, before you resume DPS on the boss, you make your way to point b. You must do this, no exceptions, its super dooper insanely critical that we keep the ice tomb locations clear. If we don't do this its a wipe.

Later Attempts

  • We will use the same pattern above but we will have two healers and two groups of three dps.
  • There will be two DPS leaders (Probably Deadheart and Rikki) and all DPS will be assigned to a group.
  • Only the DPS leaders and the Tanks will be talking on vent.
  • At any one point in time there will be one DPS group concentrating on the boss and one dealing with an ice tomb.
    • We may need to switch both dps groups to an Ice Tomb is a healer gets tombed.
It's time to sue

http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/games/us-judge-says-video-game-addiction-suit-can-continue-20100831-14bwz.html

US judge says video game addiction suit can continue August 31, 2010 - 1:40PM

A US federal judge has ruled that a man who says he's psychologically dependent and addicted to an online video game can proceed with some of his lawsuit against the game's South Korean manufacturer.

Craig Smallwood says "Lineage II" left him unable to function independently in daily activities, such as getting dressed, bathing or communicating with family and friends.

Smallwood says he's spent more than 20,000 hours playing the multiplayer online role-playing game since 2004. The 51-year-old says NCSoft never warned him about the danger of game addiction.

A Honolulu law firm that represents the company had urged that the case be dismissed, but US District Judge Alan Kay in his August 4 ruling allowed half of the eight counts to continue.
