I kicked Skanc from the guild for irredeemable lameness.

(I mean seriously, "asl?" Is this a guild, or is it an early 90s AOL chatroom?)

I've been asked to give a little more detail, so here goes.

For the second time in a couple of days, Donna calls me over ands says "Hey, that sleazy guy in our guild is drunk-messaging me again." Now I'm not too worried, Donna is more than capable of taking care of herself, but looking over her shoulder at the conversation I come to the conclusion that this is someone with whom I would rather not share a guild.

So I gkicked.

Maybe it's a decade or two of running IRC channels, but That Guy Who Messages Anyone With A Female-Sounding Name is an Internet archetype, and one that has never led to anything but annoyance in pretty much every forum I've encountered them.

    I feel indifferent to the fact that you kicked him, my support is irrelevant. If anyone from our core group has the authority to kick/demote/remove anyone else who is not part of the core group.

    That said, I am somewhat hurt that no one ever asks me for my age, sex or location.

    I've been asked by Q to give him the opportunity to convey events from his perspective. I asked in #anb and people were OK with this. Here is Q's email to everyone:

    In regards to the above incident, at first I thought Todd (Skanc) was being lurid because he was drunk, and since no one knows who we actually are, I thought I'd rather go away rather than making a big fuss (and I probably would have).

    I apologised to Furgin in an in-game email and had a short talk with him later.

    I had a conversation with Todd later on, and his version of the events was:
    1. He initiated a tell to Connie with asl?
    2. He made a joke that he didn't believe that she is a woman
    3. Connie typed in guild chat asking Carl to tell him that she's a woman
    4. He got gkicked

    Of course you have all the rights to gkick him for this if you want. I personally do not think that the conversation was that harmful, especially considering the amount of ribbing I had to endure in the short time I was in the guild. I did think some were rather rude, but I did not take it personally because because it was just the usual harmless jests after all. Yet, it did give me an impression that the guild was rather laid-back, and I thought I'd ask my friends to join in. I talked to Furgin that they weren't going to play here seriously anyway, as they're pretty much done with the game, and they probably only show up during the weekend. Todd does like to joke around, and given time, I'm sure you'll get some non-sensical tells from him one day.

    I would have much preferred it if we could just talk about this before the whole incident happened, but of course that's just wishful thinking. If it happened over a couple of days, then there must be a sizeable lag since his account wasn't reactivated until Saturday afternoon (after much prodding from me and his brother) — the incident happened early Sunday, for reference.

    Anyway, let us agree to disagree, as by this standard, it would be very likely that I will be gkicked one day. Reading this announcement, it does feel like us three are merely faceless sleazeballs to you. So I am personally offended with how this whole thing came out, and my relationship with Jedi is rather strained because of this. It's a wonderful game indeed!

    I really only know Furgin, Penny, Swoon and Moonburn (thanks for telling me about Petzold again), and I thank you for the few runs we did together. I understand it's a small guild where everyone knows everyone else, and we did have trouble fitting in (which is why I refuse to take anything out of the gbank). Perhaps it is for the best that all this happened.
